Fiber and Fiber Preparation Books
Fiber and Fiber Preparation Books
Since the beginning of human history, fiber has been used for clothing, building materials, and everyday items (ropes, fishing nets, sails, etc.). Historically, fibers were either classified as plant-based (cotton, flax, hemp, etc.) or animal-based (wool, silk). The newest classification, man-made or synthetic, was established in 1855 with the creation of artificial silk (now commonly known as rayon). The first true synthetic fiber, Nylon, was created by Wallace Carothers at DuPont as an alternative to natural silk in 1935
As with most raw materials, fiber needs to be properly prepared prior to being transformed and put to use. The Woolery offers a collection of titles offering tips, techniques and general knowledge regarding the history and preparation of fiber.
